The idea of people not using their talents really struck a chord with me! When I began college, I enrolled in the forestry program at Glenville State. Though I really enjoy the outdoors and loved the idea that I could become a conservation officer some day had sparked a light somewhere in me so I just had to see what it was like. Meanwhile, during this venture, I continued to do something else that I loved. I was always painting, drawing, or just creating things. I realized that not only was my passion for art strong enough to pull me in a new direction, but I had found something I was good at. I feel that there are so many others out there that choose a career because of the paycheck and not because they are good with the needed skills in a particular field. I want to use my personal experience to encourage others to use their talents and skills to their benefit.

The overall idea of an Education Revolution is great! So, when is this going to happen??? I think it needs to happen as soon as possible. Education needs changed from the ground up. There needs to be changes from the elementary level through graduate!!! I am not saying that there needs to be a complete over hull of every aspect of the education system. Let’s face it there is plenty of room for change!!! Students need to be encouraged to do their best to become successful in their own lives, in society, communities, etc… As educators it is our duty to help with this encouragement but we must also be given adequate resources to do so. These resources will only be available when changes to the education system are made!

The idea of utilizing the technology that we already have on hand is such a great idea! While I agree that this is something that needs to be done, I can see the glitches now!!!! As a substitute, I often find myself in a classroom, sitting behind a desk with a computer in front of me. A computer that is hooked up to a white board that is. This is a piece of technological equipment that is in every classroom in our county. So, what’s the big deal??? Not enough training. I have had little training on how to use the white boards. In fact, the students usually know how to use them better than me. Although I think that utilizing the technology at hand is a great idea, how can we use it if we are not trained????
I'm glad you brought up the SmartBoard issue. Similar to textbook SmartBoard promote a pedagogy of watching instead of a pedagogy of doing. The SmartBoard companies are making millions convincing educators that a SmartBoard will transform schools. 21st century teaching involves collaboration, problem solving and content creation. Not watching someone do a math problem on a SmartBoard. In this case training is not the issue. SmartBoards just don't have that much to offer in terms of helping teachers create engaging curriculum.
